Palo Sage

White Sage - The Grace Collection

Burning sage, also known as smudging, is used to cleanse your space and invite positive energies. As the smoke ascends, our wishes and intentions connect with the earth. White Sage is associated with purity. Burning sage in your home can help get rid of those bad vibes and energies. After our home has been cleansed, we feel at peace, relaxed and able to deeply connect and rest with each other. I recommend having the candle from your healing box or matches nearby to relight your sage, a fireproof container like a small bowl or trinket tray held underneath the sage stick to catch any ashes. Before you begin sagging your space, we recommend setting your intentions for your home and family. Try writing your intentions in your new journal. Once you have everything you need, we recommend starting at the front door of your home and light your sage and move around your home. Allow the smoke to go into hidden spaces and move clockwise until you arrive back at the front door. Speak your intentions one last time. When you finish you want to welcome your intentions into you cleansed space. We hope you enjoy this rich ritual!

Smudging Instructions

  1. Set your intention, what do you want from your smudging ritual? Burn sage in a well-ventilated area. Do not leave burning sage unattended. Keep away from animals, children, and flammable material.

  2. While smudging, always think good thoughts and say your blessing or prayer. Never blow on the smoking sage; you’ll blow away your spirit and positive energy.

  3. Hold the sage stick at one end and pointed downward at a 45° angle, light the stick until it catches fire. Put out the fire by blowing it out with a father or with your hand.

  4. Place the smoking sage in an abalone shell or non-flammable bowl to catch ash and embers.

  5. Smudge your body with the smoke; cleanse yourself with the smoke. Smudge your mouth to speak good things. Smudge your eyes to see good things.

  6. Smudge the room you are in by moving the smoking sage around the room to cleanse the entire room from floor to ceiling and from corner to corner.

  7. You can smudge other persons or objects by moving the stick around the person's body or the object top to the bottom.

  8. When you are done using the stock, snuff out the embers on your smudging bowl.

Blessing

Great Creator, I come before you with an open heart. I ask that you hear me and I thank you for this sacred plant. I respectfully light this sacred plant and humbly call on its spirit. As its sacred smoke touches my body, I ask that it cleanse my mind, body, and spirit. As its sacred smoke fills this room, I ask that it purify, protect, and bless this space. As its scared smoke rises, I ask that it carry away all negativity, fears and attachments. As this sacred smoke leaves, I ask that light, joy, and love take its place.
